For many years traditional super group De Dannan were the forerunners in the Irish traditional music world but after 33 years, 14 albums and a number of changes in the line-up, the group disbanded in 2003.
This July, original founding member and world famous fiddle player Frankie Gavin will unleash a new De Dannan which in his own words “will reflect a De Dannan of the 21st century”.

After the Morning is the eagerly anticipated new album from Roscommon born accordionist, Alan Kelly. One of the busiest performers on the traditional and folk music scene, it’s hard to believe that it’s
almost a decade since Kelly’s last solo outing. Nonetheless, in that time Alan has reaffirmed his stature as one of Ireland’s top musicians touring and recording with artists such as De Dannan, Arty McGlynn, Eddi Reader, Lúnasa, and Michael McGoldrick.

Coscán have been together for over a decade and their new CD, Dinnseanchas: Lore of Places, takes the listener on musical journey which mixes old and new, songs and instrumental music. Dinnseanchas creates its own musical lore through a diverse range of styles. The original music includes Irish reels, hornpipes, airs and the atmospheric Tara Jig, which tries to evoke the ambience of Ireland’s
ancient capital.

Traditional flautist, Marcas Ó Murchú will be presenting a thirteen-
part radio series, Turas Ceoil, of traditional Irish music on RTE-
RnaG on Monday evenings at 7pm, from mid-June to late August.
Musicians are invited to send CD’s for airplay to Marcas at the
address below.
As some of these programmes will be pre-recorded, you
are invited to send your music as soon as possible. Music, especially
rare recordings or from local or not so well known musicians or
emigrant CD recordings from any era to the present from the Irish
Diaspora will be very welcome.

The name The Xi’An Sí ( pronounced ‘Shee Ann Shee’) is an amalgamation of both the Chinese and Irish languages. ‘Xi’An’ being the city where the group first established themselves, and ‘Sí’ being derived from that most fascinating of Irish traditions, the fairy.

Blas International Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance
is an internationally accredited summer school hosted annually by the
Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and is set on the magnificent
campus at the University of Limerick. Now in its 13th year, Blas 2009
will run from Monday, June 22nd through Friday, July 3rd.
Blas is a two-week intensive music, song and dance programme offered
by the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. This combines the
familiar concept of master classes in instrument/voice specific
technique and repertoire, as found in many summer schools, but with
small class sizes and the unparalleled level of student interaction
with tutors that this can offer.
