New Man at the Ministry

The Fianna Fail Government was returned to office for an historic third term in June and with the new look coalition came a reshuffle of cabinet posts. The new man in charge of Arts Sports and Tourism is Seamus Brennan.

France, L’Orient Festival ‘07

The world’s biggest Celtic festival takes to the streets taverns and quaysides of L’orient in Brittany during the first week of August. With over 20 different venues spread throughout the town and attendances at around 650,000 people. it is on a scale like no other festival in the world.

Guitar player passes on

Peerie Willie Johnson, the Shetland’s guitar man passed away on Tuesday 22nd May. His name may be permanently prefixed with the Shetland dialect word for “small”, in reference to his diminutive stature, but as a guitarist. Willie Johnson has long been revered as an international giant.

Album launch celebrating best All-Ireland sessions, Seisiun na h-Éireann Festival, Quin, Co. Clare

It seemed like a good idea and it certainly was judging the quality of the recording that was made at last year’s event. The idea is simple, invite the best session musicians from pubs all over Ireland to Clare in September, they are then let loose to play in the pubs so as to find the best session in the country.
