NUI Galway offers Diploma in Irish Music Studies

The Adult & Continuing Education Office at NUI Galway are offering a new and exciting part-time Diploma in Irish Music Studies which will run from September 2010. The only course of its kind offered in Ireland, the diploma will be of interest to those with a love of Irish traditional music and culture.

St Patrick’s College Leaving cert Student Kavan Donohoe Cavan Town wins the Grace Nugent Cup

It has been 29 years since the Granard Harp Festival was revived and each year it has gone from strength to strength. Each year local and visiting harpists from Ireland and overseas, head to the north Longford town for the renowned competition. All competitors had to play one tune from each category:
I. Traditional Slow Air
2. Traditional Irish Dance Music 3. Other Irish Music :( March, Planxty: Ancient and Modern Harp Music)…

IRELAND’S FIRST NATIONAL MUSIC DAY A HUGE SUCCESS

Love:live music, Ireland’s first National Music Day, took place on
Friday April 16th. The event was coordinated by Music Network in
association with RTÉ lyric fm and supported by the Department of Arts,
Sport and Tourism. Music Network is funded by The Arts Council.

Triur sa Draighean

with Peader O’ Riada, Caoimhin O’ Raghallaigh and Martin Hayes

Triur is an album of 16 tracks of 19 new compositions composed by Peadar O’Riada, recorded in 
Peadar’s home, An Draighean, (Blackthorn) in Cul Aodha, in Co. Cork. The title Triur refers to the three musicians involved, Peadar on concertina, Caoimhín O’Raghallaigh and 
Martin Hayes on fiddles. All three have individually made their own mark playing Irish music and now collectively have created a new inheritance for future generations.
