Pioneers of Irish-American Music and Dance Celebrate 40 Years with Dublin Castle Concert

Green Fields of America to play as part of Famine-art exhibition, Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger
The pioneers of Irish-American music for stage, Green Fields of America, will perform in Dublin of May at 7pm at The Printworks, Dublin Castle.

Led by Limerick-born Mick Moloney, Green Fields of America led the way in bringing together musicians, dancers and vocalists from both sides of the Atlantic, for their now-legendary expressions of culture and patriotism.

Formed in 1978, the ensemble has been a launch pad to some of the biggest names in Irish trad music and dance, including Jean Butler, Seamus Egan, Eileen Ivers, Joanie Madden, Dennis Cahill and Liz Carroll.

The Feis, the Irish music festival, from the founder of the world famous Fleadh, is coming to Liverpool this summer. Featuring some of the biggest names in Irish music, both contemporary and traditional, The Feis Liverpool will be the biggest celebration of Irish culture the city has seen.

Taking place on Liverpool’s World Heritage Waterfront on Saturday 7th July Van Morrison will headline the festival. Also on the line-up are Chieftains, Imelda May, The Hothouse Flowers, Foy Vance, The Coronas, Aslan, Finbar Furey, Hudson Taylor, The Stunning, Nathan Carter, Damien Dempsey, Dublin Legends (The Dubliners), Sharon Shannon, Mary Coughlan, Jack L & Mundy. ULSTER GROUP ‘SPLEODAR’ WIN SIANSA GAEL LINN 2018 FINAL!

Eight young traditional music groups from the four corners of Ireland took to the stage of the National Concert Hall on Sunday 22 April in the hope of being crowned Siansa Gael Linn champions for 2018. After a glorious evening of music and song, the title went to the Ulster group ‘Spleodar’, whose members hail from counties Antrim, Tyrone and Monaghan. They were mentored by music teacher Maggie Maguire from Fermanagh. Siansa is organised annually by Gael Linn, with support from RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Irish Music Magazine, and is an important event on the calendar of young musicians. (more…)

The 7th Annual Féile Chnoc na Gaoithe, Tulla Traditional Music Festival will take place on the weekend 11th to 13th May with a fantastic line up of top class performers over the three days.

The multi-talented fiddle-player and flute player Frankie Gavin heads the stellar line up of performers. Frankie, from Co. Galway is this year’s recipient of the Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018 (Traditional Music Awards ), he has been prominent on the national scene for over forty years, first making headlines as founder member of the acclaimed group De Dannan. Frankie will be joined in concert by legendary Co. Clare concertina player Noel Hill who featured in on TG4 documentary Aisling Ghéar on Wednesday night. Brian McGrath, piano and banjo maestro from Co. Fermanagh will complete the trio in concert in Tulla Courthouse on Saturday 12th May at 8pm. (more…)

WHAT: Launch of Fleadh Átha Cliath 2018 by Minister of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan T.D. The Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire=Rathdown County Council, Tom Murphy, will also speak.  Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú, Director General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will also attend and speak. The evening will be presented by Tristan Rosenstock and will feature music and song from some of the best young musicians in Dublin - including All-Ireland Fleadh winners, winners of Siansa Gael Linn and recording artist Aisling Jarvis.
