Music Network presents Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh’s ‘In My Mind’, a solo fiddle and film show
11 – 19 October 2014
www.musicnetwork.ie
‘…the missing link between Martin Hayes and Purple Haze’ Irish Independent
Music Network is delighted to present the ‘most imaginative and fascinating musician in all of trad’ (Earle Hitchner, Irish Echo), Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh in a solo fiddle and film tour. Touring nationwide from 11 October 2014, In My Mind is a window into the world of music-making, from a musician equally at home playing traditional Irish slides and polkas as exploring contemporary musical landscapes. Making live music happen across the country, Music Network provides an opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost musicians at affordable prices, funded by the Arts Council.
Armed with his trusty 10-string “Hardanger d’Amore” fiddle and a film projector, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh sets out to show the beauty, depth and humour of traditional Irish music in his own take on what makes it beautiful. Inside the projector are virtual guests, friends whom he has filmed: musician, dancer, singer, poet and landscape, each of whom make the other half of a duet with a live Caoimhín. A better look at what goes on inside a musician’s head could not be had, not if you cut it in half and hinged it open.
One of the most acclaimed (and prolific) traditional musicians of his generation, Ó Raghallaigh has performed in such venues as the Lincoln Centre in NYC, the Barbican in London, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin. In addition to being an established solo artist, he performs in various duos, plays in a trio with Martin Hayes and Peadar Ó Riada, and is a member of two groups: The Gloaming and This Is How We Fly.

Woodford House Live Concerts
www.woodfordEvents.com
Broadcasting live online via Concert Window is making some unexpected income for traditional, folk, acoustic, poetry and storytelling artists.
It requires a reliable and fast upload broadband service and it’s a good idea to contact someone experienced in this new style of broadcasting.
Singer harpist Claire Roche and poet and storyteller John Willmott, aka Woodland Bard, have performed online concerts from Claire’s Woodford House venue, near Blackrock, Co. Dublin. They have been impressed with the service and extra income earned from Concert Window. Now they would like to show others how to do the same.
At present, most of the Concert Window audience is in the USA so this creates interesting concert time scheduling. Most concerts performed by Claire and others have been between 11pm and 1am Irish time, which catches the early evening viewers in much of the USA. As more viewers come on board in Ireland, UK and through Europe, it will soon make sense to hold regular time concerts at 7pm, 8pm etc.
Despite these performance time oddities, online broadcasting means a gig with barely any travel expenses and tour management headaches. It potentially means a world audience from a single gig too. This is also a great gig outlet for musicians taking time out to be with their young families.

Little Sea Records in Portland, Oregon is very pleased to release Foreign Shore from award-winning flautist and singer Hanz Araki.
Araki, called “an Irish music phenomenon in West Coast America” by Irish Music Magazine, has recorded a compelling collection of eleven songs and tunes from the traditions of Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, New Zealand, and America with long–time collaborator Cary Novotny (guitar). With additional musical contributions from Eddie Parente (strings), Lisa Ornstein (podorythmie), Colleen Raney (vocals), Bob Soper (vocals), and Mike Cody (vocals), Foreign Shore dives into the heart of a musical tradition that traveled the world as Araki’s Irish and Japanese forbearers did.
