DEATH OF BOSTON’S IRISH MUSIC STALWART

LARRY REYNOLDS  1932 ~ 2012

Fiddle player Larry Reynolds  has passed away on October 3rd  in Boston. Larry was born in Ahascragh, County Galway  into a large family, he was one of thirteen children. He began fiddle lessons at age 10. Before leaving Ireland to come to Boston, he played with many céili bands. In Boston he was elected the first chairman of the Hanafin-Cooley branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann which he founded.  We had the pleasure of meeting Larry personally when the IMM team visited  Boston College and also heard Larry play on  many occasions in America including a visit he made to the  Milwaukee Irish Fest.

The Hanafin Cooley branch posted this short tribute to their founding father: “He worked tirelessly to promote and share his love for Irish culture through music and friendship. Condolences to his wife Phyllis and family, as well as to his extended family of musicians, dancers and community members that extends across the globe. He will be sadly missed, and it’s safe to say that his like will not be seen again. “

Writing on Facebook, his nephew Pat  expressed this heartfelt tribute to Larry - “Larry Reynolds has passed away, though his legacy and love for the music will live on in all of us who played with, danced to or just enjoyed his company. To all who learned from and played with the man, condolences. To those who had the pleasure of playing with him for almost 45 years, as I have, keep the love alive, and pass it on. RIP Larry and thank you for some of the best times of my life.”
