Calling all traditional bands and solo performers

Due to the great success of the Gathering Showcase gigs, the event will run again in 2013. The Gathering invited festival directors from various festivals in Europe and Great Britain to see new and established acts perform with a view to get offers of gigs at major festivals in Europe. This gives bands / solo performers the opportunity to showcase their own styles, with bands getting gigs at various festivals in London, Denmark, France and Switzerland in 2011/2012.

Part–Time Diploma in Irish Music Studies at NUI Galway

NUI Galway is currently enrolling for a two–year, part–time Diploma in Irish Music Studies. Delivered by the Centre for Irish Studies in association with the Office of Adult & Continuing Education, the programme will be of appeal to those with an interest in modern Irish Culture and traditional music.

“The programme is interdisciplinary in its content and provides an introduction to the ways in which Irish traditional music, song and dance have contributed to the creation of identity amongst Irish communities on the island of Ireland and beyond” explains Director of the Centre for Irish Studies at NUI Galway, Dr. Louis De Paor.

RTÉ Breakthrough Bursary 2012

Christy Moore and Ryan Sheridan along with judges Fiachna Ó Braonáin of the Hothouse Flowers and RTÉ 2XM’s Jacqui Carroll showed their support for the competition during the launch of the RAAP bursary on June 7th. The bursary will see €24,500 in prize money awarded to the winners along with guaranteed air play on prime time radio across RTÉ’s four national FM stations: RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Gala concert to mark 40 years of RnaG and Willie Clancy Summer School

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta marks 40 years on air this year, as does the Willie Clancy Summer School, and as part of the celebrations to mark both occasions a gala concert will take place in the Community Hall on Sunday July 8th in Miltown Malbay, and will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. Tommy Peoples with his daughter Siobhán, Peadar O’Loughlin, Mick and Jane Flynn, Jack Talty, Éamon McGivney and Friends, and Vincent Griffin are just some of the wonderful musicians who will be heard in the concert which will be presented by Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha and Seán Bán Breathnach of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. It will be broadcast live from 8pm on FM and online at www.rte.ie/rnag.

LAUNCH OF CD & CLÁR 2012

On Wednesday August 15th in the Liberty Insurance Dome the 2012 edition of the clár will be launched. The official programme is an important part of the festival as it contains all the information necessary to understand and enjoy the fleadh. The competition listings which are contained in the centre, forms the core of the book and is essential for every competitor. It was decided to have an official launch this year and combine it with a concert in order to promote the clár properly.
