Blazing Bows

Blazing Bows is Cathal Hayden,Dezi Donnelly, Tola Custy, John Joe Kelly and Ed Boyd. Their other bands include: Lúnasa, Four Men and a Dog, Guidewires, Sharon Shannon, Flook and many more. They got together for a series of summer shows in 2012 and will reconvene in June for another batch of gigs.

CultureFox described them as follows: “Through their playing, these five extraordinary musicians have become ambassadors for traditional Irish music all over the world. Together they created a sound that is truly sublime.” The band will play the Hawk’s Well Theatre Sligo in June.

NEW TRADITIONAL MUSIC GROUP GROG

The group was formed this year by well–known singer/musician Carmel Gunning and is very busy touring Ireland at the moment,  playing in Inisturk and Listowel in July and Gloucestershire, England in October. The members of the band are all established musicians such as Carmel Gunning, John Regan, Seamus O’ Kane and Joe Grady.

FESTIVALS ARE ON THE CURRICULUM

The University of Limerick is about to launch a new taught Masters Course at the World Academy of Music festivals. The University is looking for a PhD to lead the course, which will run from next September and the post attracts a salary of between €50k – €81k.

Now in its third year, Clannad’s Moya Brennan and harp maestro, Cormac De Barra’s exclusive Voices & Harps workshop takes place on the weekend of June 21st – 23rd. The appeal has spread wide and this year the workshop will host visitors from Germany, France, Japan and the UK – as well as a number of homegrown enthusiasts. Places are limited in order to ensure personal attention to all participants but there are still a few places left.

DERVISH have just completed a sell-out tour of the USfor the album’s launch.  The album had its US launch at a special function in Boston in association with the WGBH Public Broadcasting organisation in Americawhere it was hailed by fans as their best yet.  Their US Coast to Coast tour finishes in The Lincoln Theatre,University of Hartford, Connecticut.  DERVISH Launch “The Thrush in the Storm” this April in Ireland and Europe before heading to the UK for a promo tour.
